Tuition by key stage

Structured programmes from primary foundations through to A-Level — built around the UK curriculum and exam boards.

Year 3 - 11

English

Our English Programme supports pupils from Year 3 to Year 11 through structured lessons aligned with the UK curriculum.

In Years 3 and 4, pupils build key skills in grammar, vocabulary, spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure. In Years 5 and 6, they develop stronger language, reasoning, vocabulary, and exam techniques for 11 Plus preparation.

From Years 7 to 9, pupils strengthen their understanding of a range of texts, writing styles, themes, structure, and authorial methods. In Years 10 and 11, pupils prepare for GCSE English Language and Literature through focused work on analysis, essay writing, comparison, evaluation, SPaG, timing, and exam technique.

Every fourth week, pupils complete an assessment to review the skills they have covered. Parents receive detailed feedback to help support their child’s progress.

Through expert teaching, regular practice, assessment, and personalised feedback, pupils gain the English skills needed for school, 11 Plus, GCSE, and beyond.

Year 3 - A-Level

Mathematics

Our Maths Programme supports pupils from Year 3 through to A Level with structured lessons aligned with the UK curriculum, 11 Plus preparation, GCSE expectations, and advanced study.

Pupils develop strong mathematical foundations before progressing to more challenging skills that require accuracy, logical thinking, and confidence. Lessons are carefully sequenced to help pupils understand key methods, apply them independently, and approach problem-solving with greater precision.

For 11 Plus preparation, pupils focus on speed, accuracy, reasoning, and exam technique. At GCSE level, they develop fluency, multi-step problem-solving, clear mathematical communication, and the ability to apply methods to unfamiliar questions.

At A Level, pupils extend their understanding through more advanced mathematical concepts, developing the analytical depth and independence needed for Sixth Form, university pathways, and future study.

Through expert teaching, regular practice, carefully planned progression, and personalised feedback, pupils gain the knowledge, confidence, accuracy, and reasoning skills needed for school, 11 Plus, GCSE, A Level, and beyond.

Year 3 - 5

Creative Writing

At Wallington Academy, our Creative Writing Programme is designed to unlock imagination, refine expression, and develop confident young writers. Through a carefully structured and engaging curriculum, pupils learn how to craft compelling narratives, communicate ideas with clarity and sophistication, and adapt their writing for a variety of purposes and audiences. As students progress, they are introduced to increasingly advanced techniques that enhance creativity, strengthen vocabulary, and develop the ability to write with precision, flair, and originality.

From imaginative storytelling to persuasive communication and analytical writing, our programme nurtures the skills required for both academic excellence and lifelong confidence. Particular emphasis is placed on developing creativity, critical thinking, and readiness for examination, ensuring pupils are equipped to approach any writing challenge with confidence. Every fourth week, progress is carefully assessed, with personalised feedback provided to both parents and pupils to support continuous growth and outstanding achievement.

Year 3 - 5

Comprehension

At Wallington Academy, our structured Comprehension Programme develops confident, analytical readers through a progressive approach from Year 3 to Year 5. Pupils begin by mastering core skills such as retrieval, sequencing, vocabulary, and understanding characters’ thoughts and feelings. In Year 4, they build a deeper understanding by explaining motivations, summarising ideas, predicting outcomes, identifying literary devices, and exploring how language shapes meaning. By Year 5, pupils progress to advanced analysis, including inference, comparison, themes, tone, suspense, and authorial techniques across fiction and non-fiction. Through expert teaching, carefully chosen texts, and rigorous skill development, we prepare pupils to excel in examinations and become thoughtful, independent readers.

Every fourth week, pupils undertake a carefully designed assessment to evaluate and reinforce the comprehension skills acquired over the preceding weeks. Detailed feedback is provided to parents, fostering meaningful collaboration with our teaching team to support each child's continued progress and achievement.

Year 3 - 11

Handwriting

Our Handwriting Lessons help pupils develop neat, fluent, and confident handwriting through regular, structured practice.

Pupils work on letter formation, spacing, sizing, joining, alignment, presentation, and overall writing control. Lessons also encourage good posture, pencil grip, consistency, accuracy, and speed, helping children produce clear and well-presented work.

As pupils progress, they build handwriting fluency, confidence, and stamina, which support them in schoolwork, 11 Plus preparation, and wider academic study.

Through careful guidance, focused practice, and personalised feedback, pupils gain the handwriting skills needed to write clearly, confidently, and effectively.

Year 4 - 5, Year 10 - 11 and A-level

Weekly Mock Exams

Our Mock Exams provide pupils with regular practice under realistic exam conditions, helping them build confidence, accuracy, and strong exam discipline.

The programme is available for Year 4 and Year 5 pupils preparing for the 11 Plus, as well as Year 10, Year 11, and A Level students preparing for GCSE and advanced examinations. Each session helps pupils test their knowledge, improve time management, strengthen exam technique, and develop confidence under timed conditions.

For 11 Plus pupils, papers alternate between standard written-answer papers and multiple-choice papers, helping them become familiar with both formats and approach different question types with accuracy and confidence. For GCSE and A Level students, sessions focus on exam-style practice, structured responses, mark-scheme awareness, targeted improvement, and independent exam readiness.

Through regular, timed practice and focused feedback, pupils develop the skills, discipline, and confidence needed to perform successfully in their examinations.

Year 6 - 11

Science

Our Science Programme supports pupils from Year 6 to Year 11 through structured lessons aligned with the UK curriculum and GCSE expectations.

In Year 6, pupils build a strong foundation in key scientific knowledge, vocabulary, observation, and investigative skills. From Years 7 to 9, they develop a deeper understanding of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, learning how to explain scientific ideas clearly and apply them with confidence.

In Years 10 and 11, pupils prepare for GCSE Combined Science or Separate Sciences by strengthening their subject knowledge, practical understanding, data skills, calculation skills, exam technique, and accurate use of scientific terminology.

Through expert teaching, carefully sequenced lessons, regular practice, and personalised feedback, pupils gain the scientific knowledge, reasoning, problem-solving, and examination skills needed for school, GCSE success, and future study.

Year 5

Scholar Support

Our Year 5 Scholars Programme is designed for committed 11 Plus pupils entering the final stage of their preparation.

The programme focuses on mastery, exam readiness, and consistent performance under timed conditions. Pupils work on strengthening confidence, accuracy, speed, and resilience during this crucial period before the 11 Plus examinations.

Lessons include advanced preparation in English and Mathematics, with a strong focus on problem-solving, reasoning, vocabulary, written expression, and exam technique. Pupils are guided through challenging tasks, timed practice, targeted feedback, and strategic revision to fully prepare them for the demands of the 11 Plus.

Regular attendance and continued parental support are essential, helping each child stay focused, disciplined, and motivated throughout this important final stage.

"We've been doing 11+ preparation for three years now, trying various training and tutorial programmes with other tutorial schools. Our son was doing well at the start, back in Year 3, attending a weekly paper class to help with practice questions. At the time, we thought this…"

FAQ

Common parent questions

Everything you’d want to ask before your child starts. If yours isn’t here, send us a message — we reply the same day.

How small are the group sizes?

Maximum 6 students per group lesson. Smaller for some 11+ and A-Level sets where focused attention matters most. We never run 'tutor-to-many' classes that lose individual children in the crowd.

How do you measure progress?

Every child has a RAG-coded topic tracker (red / amber / green) updated weekly by their tutor, plus a mock paper score every fortnight for exam-track students. Parents see all of it via the online portal — no waiting for parents' meeting

Can my child catch up if they miss a lesson?

Yes. We offer a free catch-up slot in the same week wherever possible, plus written notes and the worksheet from the missed lesson.

Do you offer one-to-one tuition as well as groups?

Yes — both in person and online. One-to-one suits students preparing for specific entrance exams, those who need to fill significant gaps, or those who simply prefer it. The format is your choice.

What happens after the assessment?

You receive a written report with your child's strengths, areas to develop, and a recommended programme — group, one-to-one, or a mix — with no obligation to enrol. About 80% of students do, but it's a no-pressure starting point either way.

Are your tutors DBS-checked?

Yes. Every tutor holds an enhanced DBS certificate and we maintain safeguarding training across the team. Certificates are available on request.
